Noteworthy Mobile App

UI/UX Design
Identity System

The task for this school project was to innovate a product that improves its functionality through technology. I Achieved it by designing a smarter note taking app through a more intuitive user experience and simple user interface design.

IDEATION

I have always loved taking notes on my phone, so when I decided on what technology I will be innovating, I remember thinking; what if we can change the note taking experience with our smart phones? Most of the time, when I take notes, I don't look at them again for the second time. I forget about them. What if the app will remind me of all of my notes to a relevant subject matter I need?

PERSONA

To define the scope and limitations on the user interface design, I created personas to specify the process that the users will go through when using the app.

I started drawing diagrams and low fidelity mock-ups to point out some areas in the UI flow of existing notes apps on the market.

BRANDING

Choosing the color scheme and the UI design for this app needed something fresh and playful while being bold for its innovative features.

Using Adobe Color Theme, I used the bold color of Cyan as the primary color. Dark Blue and Rich Pink were then added for the accent colors. These colors convey freshness in an unconventional way.

The low fidelity mock-ups are then added, with details, to refine the flow and interactions for every page. This process involves considering what the goals and motivations of the users are, and how the app can help achieve those goals.

EMPTY STATE

The empty state is the main page when users uses the product for the first time. This is where users can explore the app and its functionalities. Because of Hick's law, in this screen, I only added 3 buttons with an emphasis on the "add" button, to aid the user in the decision making.

SEARCH PAGE

One of the features of the app was to help improve the functionality of the search button of the app.

In this page, it is designed to look like a chat box, where the app calls for an action and the user can respond in multiple ways: voice, text, and date & time range. This functions are designed to help the user remember notes they want to remember with more options.

RESULT

A new and improved experience not only in taking down notes, but also in retrieving valuable and relevant information in a more accessible way.

The core colors and modern aesthetics gives character to the app while maintaining functionality and purpose.

Simplicity and clarity of the user interface help users navigate and explore the possibilities of technology that can aid in human tasks and challenges, which is in this case, the task of remembering relevant memories and ideas.

I am a graphic designer in general terms, but I specialize in visual design work that ranges from digital interface to branding identity.
I recently received my Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, with an emphasis in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University - Hawaii.
This principle by Paula Scher helps me in my design process; "Be culturally literate, because if you don't have any understanding of the world you live in and the culture you live in, you're not going to express anything to anybody else.”
